I was fortunate to have an amazing experience in my earlier working days. Several departments that all interfaced within a major department were trained in a Personality Profiling System. Our goal was to analyze our client base offerings by better understanding ourselves, our patterns in working together, our responses to situations and to each other based on our profiles. We could then also apply these concepts to our families and friends. Our application to the client base was to see how the individuals might respond to various activities and structures and what we might do to be more inclusive with and understanding of their desires.
In our self-evaluation, we were assigned colors corresponding to our personality types and wore little colored dots on our nametags for easy identification of our primary and secondary traits. Our interactions became based not on what we would want for ourselves, but on how that person’s personality might be best addressed. Fascinating changes began to occur, which included pausing before speaking to someone to be much more conscious in our interactions. Judgments fell away, replaced by understanding and compassion. Collaboration became easier and individual skill sets were brought forward for needed tasks. We even used the process for placing the right personality with specific job duties.
While some of this may seem very obvious, it was the secondary and tertiary characteristics that could be surprising as they surfaced and came into play. And play we did, not taking ourselves seriously, and stepping back and doing replays of our interactions to take into account our new-found insights and skills.
We will be playing with these insights and concepts throughout the weekend at Desert Moon Endeavors, September 18-20, as we get to know each other and know our friends on deeper levels, we will share our experiences at the close of our time together to deepen our understanding.
I look forward to learning who we all are as we learn more about ourselves!
